Why do you write?
I write in hope that my internal self that may not be easily observed by others — with its many symptoms I don’t have the opportunity to mention on a daily basis — will feel less alienated from friends, family, and strangers.
I also write in hopes of monitoring symptoms/deficits/potential cognitive decline, as well as to reflect on what I value and believe in.
Sometimes I feel very strong negative emotions, and I begin writing for my own peace of mind. Some posts describe experiences that I feel embarrassed or humiliated by, and/or ashamed of. Some were painfully hard to make the decision to share with others. I wish to remain under my chosen pseudonym — including having things about me that are not written explicitly with this Substack account be unknown.
(There are also other reasons I write.)
I really enjoy getting comments (including ones with disagreement), so if you ever have something on your mind, even if it’s after on a post from “a long time ago,” I’d ask that you share!

What have you learned from the experience of having mental illness?
